Even better than expected,
I’ve used the same folio-style case for an iPod Touch 1G and 4G, and I was really happy to find an option for the iPhone 4, as well. Without too many reviews and limited pictures, you’re never quite sure if you’ll be getting a usable case, so I was very pleased that this one worked out so well.
That said, on to the details:
The leather (or leather-like; I can’t tell, and the product description doesn’t specify) is handsome and the flap and backing is sturdy, unlike some other folio-style cases. The stitching is high-quality, and I expect it will last a long time. The leather will probably scuff pretty easily, but I like the distressed look.
The magnetic clasp initially worried me because I figured it wouldn’t be strong enough, but it’s actually fine. If I kept credit cards in there, though, I don’t know if it would close far enough for the magnet to catch.
Unlike many folio cases (older Belkin folios and the BookBook Case comes to mind), this case design does not block any controls, cameras, or sensors. There are no straps or elastic bands holding the device in place; the plastic clips on the edges snap it in and hold it securely.
The leather flap folds all the way back so it’s out of the way when using the iPhone, either as a phone or in general (games, email, browsing). If you’ve never had a similar folio case, it might take some getting used to, but I personally like that there’s more to hold onto than the thin iPhone, and it certainly doesn’t get in the way.
A previous reviewer mentioned the extremely tight credit card slots. I agree; they’re pretty snug. The interior leather is pliant enough that I think you could stretch it to accommodate cards. That’s not what I use them for, though. I keep a few business cards in there instead. The pocket for cash is handy, too.
I do have one nitpick: The plastic brackets that snap the iPhone in are set juuust a hair too narrow. The iPhone still snaps in fine and is held extremely securely, but when I look at it end-on, I can see that they’re bending out just a bit on one side to accommodate it. This also means that, over time, the leather backing might separate from the glued-in bracket. It’s hard to explain, and I don’t think it will be a problem, but it’s worth noting.
Overall, I’m extremely pleased with this case. With the rapid turn-over in case styles and availability, I’m even considering purchasing another as backup for when this one gets beaten up after a year or two.

|Just what I wanted, but…,
It actually has 3 credit-card slots (I was only expecting 2), and an additional pocket beneath where you can stick your cash. The phone is totally uninhibited in this case, unlike other cases where the phone is cumbersome to use. I do like the case, and want to eliminate having a separate billfold and phone case.
Update – the credit card slots are way too tight. It’s nearly impossible to insert cards or IDs into them. Maybe they will wear a little over time, but they are so tight I may never find out as they really are unusable.
